Inspiration photos
Who was he?
Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created approximately 2100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life
Construction:
Planning & Glazes Used (and planning on using)
the decade he produced his art in was from 1880-1890
He didn't start painting until he was 27 and he received no formal training
Van Gogh had huge impact on the world as he is one of the most influential painters of all time. A visionary who big influence on the development of much modern painting and Expressionism. He is now famed for the great vitality of his works which are characterized by expressive and emotive use of brilliant color and energetic application of impastoed paint
I was inspired by Van Gogh's piece because I love flowers and I knew I wanted to incorporate flowers into my final some how and this was just the perfect opportunity
This is a slab built vase with hand built flowers on the side. I rolled a slav and wrapped it around so it overlapped a little to make the vase shape. I cut a circle slab for the base of it. I also used slab for the leaves. The stems are made from coils and the petals are hand built.
Challenges and Success:
Some challenges I had with this piece was the petals, they kept falling off and weren't very stable on the buds.
Some success I had with this piece was the glazing. It's all underglaze and I think the way it came out was a success
Underglazes : Royal Blue, Avacado, Turquoise, Violet, White, Yellow
- Planning on clear glazing the whole thing
