Flower candle holder

Semester 1 Projects

My inspiration from this piece was that I wanted to make a ceramic flower and it wasn't originally going to be a candle holder. I saw that inspo picture on pinterest and that's when I decided to make the center flat to hold a candle. The contruction of this was hand built. I wish I had made multiple layers of petals instead of just one. But overall I like the way it turned out For the glazing I knew I wanted to do pink because that's her favorite color. I love to ombre flowers when I draw them so that's what I did with the colors. It's a low fire white piece, I used all mayco glazes; rosey posey, grapel, and cotton tail. I am overall happy with how this came out

My inspiration for this piece came from these photos on pinterest and sophia's collection of ceramic sea creatures. I loved the idea of making something with sea creatures crawling up the side. The construction of this piece is a slab vase with hand made sea creatures stuck on. This low fire white piece is glazed with all mayco glazes; hot tamale, orange-a-peel, green thumb, cotton tail, and moody blue. I am not happy with the glazing on this piece at all. If I were to do this again I would do all one solid color instead of trying to individually color everything.

My inspiration for this piece came from a heart dish I attempted last year( I ended up scraping it in the greenware stage). I found a photo for reference on what I attempted last year. But for this one the construction was just a slab cut out with two strips of slab for the walls. I could've made it a little more precise but overall I like it. For the glaze on this low fire white piece I used mayco, it's hot tamale, cotton tail, and green thumb for the strawberry top. I am happy with how this came out it's very cute. And it's a gift for my friend Melissa who loves strawberries

Eyeball cup

My inspiration for this piece came from that picture and from Jessica's eye piece she threw last year. For the construction it's a pinch pot with hand built eyes put around it. I would roll a ball and then two coils around it and then blend them. For the glaze it's Mayco Rawhide. I wish I had painted each eye and done it in more detailed design it would've looked better. I also wished I would've brought up the sides more to make it a taller shape.

Flower Ornament

my inspiration for this piece came from those ceramic ornaments I saw at the thrift store. They weren't exactly like the inspo picture but that was the closest to the real ones I could find. This is a 612 piece and the construction is slab pieces carved out with a signing tool into the floral designs. I had drawn the flowers before and then used the drawings for reference. If I were to do this again I would do a sgraffito and painted different colors for each flower and carved them out, I think It would've come out a little better if I did it like that. But overall I am happy with the way they turned out. They are for my mom and she loves them

Flowers For Grandma

This is a612 piece with clear glaze on the wrap part of the bouquet, robins blue egg on the flat part, and rose glaze on the flowers. My inspiration for this piece came from a couple things; pictures of ceramic bouquets I saw like the one I put down, and this flower from my grandmas house. At my grandmas house there is a flower in a ceramic cone thing that holds a flower and my grandpa changes the flower every week for my grandma. It's a very special memory for me because my grandpa is no longer around but that flower is still up every time I go to my grandmas. For the construction of this piece it's a slab base with a slab built wrap. Under the wrap is hallow but halfway up I started to hand build the flowers. The flowers are flattened pieces of clay rolled up to look like a rose. I really like how this turned out and I am excited to give it to my grandma for christmas.

Starfish Slab

This is a 612 piece with oatmeal speckled gloss (but it ran off the sides) and clear gloss. For the construction of this piece it's a slab with a hand built star fish on top. I used a signing tool for the indents on top. My inspiration for this piece came from the picture and from my sea creature vase. I used the same construction for the starfish from the vase for this piece. I don't love how this came out, I wish I didn't put the glaze on because the way it ran down the sides ruined the way I wanted it to look. It would've looked better if I had just done clear glaze with the 612.

Sea Creature Slab Vase Part 2

This is a Low Fire White piece with bright white glaze. This is a remake piece of my first sea creature slab vase because the first one I absolutely hated the glaze on. For the construction it's a slab vase with hand built sea creatures all over the sides. For the first one I had originally wanted to paint the enire thing white or blue but I decided not to and regretted it in the end. So for this one I stuck with my instincts and painted it pure white. I am really happy with the way this turned out. I think it looks way better than the first one. And the sea creatures look better too because I did a few different ones and spaced them a little differently.

For this piece it is made from Low Fire White and has all Mayco Glazes. I used Tuexedo, Sunkissed, Grapel, Lime Light, Blue Yonder, Orange-a-peel, and Hot Tamale. It's all built out of slab pieces which I meausred out to make sure the dimesions lined up with I scored the sides together. The roof comes off because it's meant to hold a candle inside and the light will shine through the door and windows. I am very happy with the way this came out. It has been my favorite piece I have made all semester.
